Nutrition Challenge // Eat For Your Blood Type
I'm a hunter. Not overly surprising given my ruthless personality (hehe). Actually, I'm only a hunter according to my blood type (O+). This means that I am the strong, self-reliant, leader type. Not too shabby of a description. It actually makes total sense, given that my heritage is Mayan (the indigenous people of Guatemala). My ancestors were hunters & gatherers and did mighty fine building a strong & beautiful society that we still admire today.
I am embarking on this eating for your blood type journey because my health has yo-yo'd over the past several years since discovering that I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. Diet and nutrition is vital to keeping it under control as it will be with me for the rest of my life. Now that I'm a mama, and my baby boy will soon be a toddler, I want to be in the best shape of my life while chasing after him. Through random trials, I have discovered that the Paleo diet gives me the most success and fulfillment. The Paleo diet is essentially a more hardcore/beefed up version of this blood type plan.
What is eating right for your blood type? Without going into too much detail, this diet/way of eating is based on the premise that your blood type puts you into a category of people that have roamed the earth during a certain time within human evolution. Therefore, your ancestors will be the biggest indicator to your blood types and what sorts of foods your body can handle best. The recommended foods for your type are provided to you in order for you to nourish yourself in a way that makes your body function at its best.
Here are the basics according to blood types:
Type O - Hunter
Type A - Agrarian
Type B - Nomadic
Type AB - Modern
Once you've figured out your type, you can customize your diet based on the recommend food to give your body optimal energy & health. I am personally committing to doing this for the next 40 days with the hope that it will become habit. I would love for you to join me!! Since not everyone shares my blood type, I'll make a super condensed version of each diet below. Another reason I am choosing to do this type of diet is because I am nursing my 8 month old. I want enough variation in my nutrition so that my body does not go into ketosis from crazy high protein and low carbs like in the Paleo diet, because that isn't good for your breast milk. Do your own research, and do what you feel most comfortable with. I'm no doctor! Just wanna have some nutritional fun!!
